Indian Summer { Central Ohio Photographer }

Wednesday, November 2, 2011

Day 2
It is one of those beautiful sunny Indian Summer days here in Central Ohio. There are still some colorful leaves clinging to the trees. The birds and squirrels are busy at the feeders and gathering goodies in anticipation of the coming winter. My wind chimes are gently singing in the light breeze. It is a day that just fills the soul with happiness. I am thankful for these days and being in the moment, thankful for the seasons & unique beauty of each one, & glad I can take a moment to appreciate it all & bask in the beauty. It is such a fleeting season, & that makes me take note & delight in each moment!

A couple more sweet shots of this sweet little guy! I've applied some textures to these to give a soft vintagey feel. The daisies in these shots remind me of images I saw as a child from my grandparents era - I tried to use the textures to give some of that same mood and feel here.

Holiday Textures - FREEBIE!

Saturday, December 13, 2008

Holidays & freebies - now it just doesn't get any better than when those two are paired!! So.... here are a couple holiday freebies for YOU!! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!! Click HERE for the download link. The link is only good for two weeks (until December 26) so download and save NOW! This is Molly, the Boston Terrier. The shot was taken by her owner, the multi-talented Char. Have fun & enjoy!

ORIGINAL SHOT.

OK – How did these texture images happen? In the snowflake shot, I pulled the texture over the Molly shot, & used blending mode Hard light set at about 70% opacity. I then used the ELIPTICAL MARQUEE TOOL with pixels set to 120 & worked it around on Molly to erase the texture from on top of her. The pixels set at 120 feathers the erased area.

For the red polka dot shot, I used the POLYGONAL LASSO TOOL to outline Molly. Once she was completely outlines with the lasso tool, I hit erase & poof, the texture was gone from her body.

Then just flatten the image & save as… I am currently using Adobe Photoshop Elements5. CS is on my wishlist!!

Texture Tutorial

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

I've had inquiries on textures & a tutorial, so I decided to re post my previous tutorial & give it an exclusive spot!! I've included some examples of images with textures applied to show what wonderful effects can be achieved using textures as overlays!!

.hanging around...

In the above image, I used a texture from my Whimsy set. I kept the blending mode at normal & reduced the opacity to about 30%.

~

In the above photo, I used one of my favorite textures... it's from the Patterns & Swirls set. Again, I pulled the texture on top of my main image, kept the blending mode at normal & reduced opacity to about 45%. Different blending modes will give different results - some very subtle, some very pronounced. It's best to play around to discover the look you enjoy. I primarily use a texture in normal blending mode & reduce the opacity. So... Here is the basic texture tutorial!

BASIC TEXTURE TUTORIAL:
1) Open your main image (I use PS Elements5).

2) Open your texture.

3) Click on your main image to set as the background layer.

4) Pull the texture image up & onto the main image.

5) If the image needs resizing, click on image, resize, scale. Then drag the edges of the texture so it fits over the background image. Click on the check mark to set.

6) To the right, there is a blending modes drop down menu. Experiment with these to get a look you like. I often use Normal, Overlay, Soft Light & Screen.

7) Next adjust the opacity slider to better refine the look.

8) If the texture is applied over a face, you can erase the texture over the face area by using the eliptical marquee tool (pixels set to 60) to erase the texture. You can then use the eraser tool (strength set around 30%) to finish up.

9) Experiment, play around & have fun!

.Fair

Thursday, August 7, 2008

When I'm not busy with my fine art child & family photography (those rare moments!), I enjoy wandering through life snapping images that will become part of my fine art photography line. Here are a couple of those images. Today is such a glorious day, that I think I may play hooky from my processing & paperwork...... & run off to join the fair for the day!! I'd love to get some more fun fair shots!!

This is little Miss E... She was taking a little break for a moment, & I was quick enough to snap it! This turned out to be one of my very favorite photographs I've ever taken. This is what I love about photography... you capture these fleeting moments... forever. I used a texture from my Vintage Pastel set & pulled it over twice - once in overlay, once in soft light blending modes.
